SEASON 2008 / 9
SEASON 2007 / 8
********************************** DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS **********************************
Ladies 2's (1) vs Basildon Ladies (1) on 08 Mar 08
With only two games remaining this season, Havering went into their final home game against Basildon 2’s knowing that the league title had already been secured. Last weeks win over the University of Essex, coupled with second place Redbridge’s loss against Upminster, had ensured that Havering 2’s were now the 2007/08 Essex Ladies Division One Champions!
However the Havering 2’s players were still determined to try and win their final two games and they knew that Basildon 2’s were by no means an easy opposition. As the first half got underway, it was clear that both teams were out to get a result from the game and the pressure soon started to build at both ends of the pitch. Despite a number of chances being created by both teams though, the score line remained 0-0 at half time.
As the second half got underway, Havering started to put more and more pressure on the Basildon defence, resulting in a number of short corners being awarded. It wasn’t long before the breakthrough for Havering finally came from one of these short corners, as Lynn Joslin controlled the ball in from Nicki Cast, passed it to Steph Holloway who then squared it to Nicola Gore to push it past the keeper and make it 1-0 to Havering.
Both teams continued to keep up the pressure and as Basildon were awarded a free hit on the edge of the D they were able to find the back of the goal to make it 1-1, which ended up being the final result.
It has been a fantastic season this year for the Havering ladies second team and the fact that they have finished as league champions very much reflects the strong team spirit that has been evident throughout the season.

Ladies 2's (3) vs Waltham Forest (2) on 23 Feb 08
With several regular team players missing Havering entertained Waltham Forest in this Division One match. Havering started the game very strongly and had most of the play in the first twenty minutes but were unable to convert the chances that they had.
Against the run of play Waltham Forest took the lead but Havering were determined not to let this get them down. Shortly afterwards Havering were awarded a short corner. The ball was hit out to Lynn Joslin at the top of the D who had a shot which was deflected in by Nicki Cast.
Havering then doubled their advantage when Nicki Cast scored a second. An injury to one of the Waltham Forest players meant that the game was delayed by roughly fifteen minutes and saw them play the rest of the game with nine players. Despite this, they managed to score a second to level the score. Havering regrouped at half time but still struggled to make their chances count.
Knowing that they only needed nine points from the remaining games Havering pushed players forward. A short corner strike from Lynn Joslin gave Havering the advantage that they needed and they hung on for the victory and three of the nine points that they need.

As the first half got underway, Havering soon looked to take control of the game. They passed the ball effectively from defence through to the midfield through to the forwards and it wasn’t long before they started to threaten the Witham goal. As Bev Horne hit a great ball through to Claire Gough in The D, Claire was able to push it past the Witham goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to Havering.

Ladies 2's (1) vs Chelmsford 4's (0) on 02 Feb 08
This week saw Havering 2’s take on Chelmsford 4’s at home. With Redbridge still at the top of the league table due to a better goal difference, it was another game Havering could not afford to drop points on.
Havering started the first half strong and soon took control of the game. As the Havering attack started to pressure the Chelmsford defence, it looked likely that Havering would be the first to score and as a Havering shot at goal was saved off the line by a Chelmsford defender’s foot, Havering were awarded with a well deserved flick. Claire Gough stepped up to take the flick and successfully found the back of goal to make it 1-0 to Havering.
As the first half progressed Havering continued to create a number of chances and were unlucky not to go 2-0 up as the ball came back off the post, but they were not able to capitalise on their lead and at half time the score remained 1-0.
The second half saw Havering continue to put pressure on the Chelmsford goal, however despite coming close on a number of occasions, the ball would just not find the back of the goal and as the final whistle went Havering had to settle for the 1-0 victory. Ladies 2's (3) vs Wapping (0) on 19 Jan 08
This week saw Havering 2’s take on Wapping 3’s at home. Having lost this fixture first time round, Havering were determined to level the result.
As the first half got underway, Havering soon settled into their game and the midfield and forwards started putting pressure on the Wapping defence early on. However despite the majority of the play throughout the half taking place in the Wapping 25, Havering could not secure the first goal they thoroughly deserved.
As the second half got underway, Havering continued to dominate the game. It was Nicki Cast who got the first break through, as after the keeper saved her first shot at goal she collected the rebound and lifted it over the keeper into the back of the goal to make it 1-0 to Havering.
This seemed to raise Havering’s game and it wasn’t long before Nicki Cast made it 2-0 to Havering. Wapping were certainly starting to feel the pressure and as the Havering defence continued to prevent any real attempts from Wapping, their attack continued to mount, resulting in a short corner, which Lynn Joslin fired home to make it 3-0 to Havering.
It was a well deserved victory that makes sure Havering continues to keep the pressure on the other teams in the league.

Havering knew that they needed to step up their game in the second half if they were going to get back on top and as they continued to mount pressure on the Thurrock defence, it was Karen Hawkes who managed to score their first goal to make it 1-1.

Ladies 2's (3) vs Southend (2) on 15 Dec 07
This week saw Havering 2’s take on Brentwood 3’s away from home, as the second half of the season got underway. With this being the final game before the Christmas break, Havering were determined to keep their place at the top of the league.
As the game got underway, Havering were increasingly making things difficult for themselves and despite coming close to scoring on a couple of occasions it was actually Brentwood that went into half time 1-0 up.
After a disappointing first half, Havering were determined to get back on top of the game as the second half started. However it was Brentwood again who managed to secure their second goal early on in the half as they converted a break in play.
Havering were by no means out of this game and as the team continued to pull together, Havering finally found the back of the Brentwood goal as Claire Gough finished off a well worked attacking move down the pitch.
This gave Havering the confidence needed and after a series of short corners were awarded, Nicki Cast managed to score Havering’s equaliser, to make it 2-2. However, it was Havering’s third goal that was simply spectacular! As Nicki Cast attacked the left side of the pitch into the D, she saw that the Brentwood goalkeeper was out of position and scored what has got to be the goal of the season to date.
As the final whistle went, Havering’s 3-2 victory after being 0-2 down, showed just how determined they are as a team and ensures that they retain their place at the top of the league.

Nicki Cast, Lisa Howard and Steph Holloway continued to put the pressure on in the D and it wasn’t long before Lisa Howard found the back of the goal to put Havering 1-0 up.
Havering continued to dominate the first half and were unlucky on a number of occasions not to secure a greater lead before half time.
The second half saw Havering continue in much the same way, with the defence and midfield linking well to feed the Havering attack. Charlotte Chamberlin, Lorraine Farnham and Nicola Day, on her debut for the 2’s, made some impressive runs down the left side of the pitch, as did Sue Taylor and Wendy Schofield on the right. The second goal soon came as Chris Noller took the ball under control in the D and pushed it past the Brentwood keeper, to make it 2-0 to Havering.
The defence kept a clean sheet on their opening game, as a result of solid performances by Lynn Joslin and Bonnie Studd in the middle and some key saves by goalie Karen Millicent. |
