Ladies 5's (2) vs Colne (5) on 01 Dec 07
Havering’s predominantly young side found it hard against the experience of a physical Colne side and they struggled to produce any real flowing hockey in the first period allowing the home side to race into a 4-0 half time lead.
However, Havering reorganised in the second half pushing Paula Johnson up front and her experience and good skill opened more chances for Havering. Havering can be proud to have won the second half 2-1 with goals from Lisa Wilson and Dini Chuter who deflected Tracy Murphy’s stunning strike over the line.

Ladies 5's (2) vs Chelmsford Ladies 5's (1) on 24 Nov 07
Another good result this week for Havering in this clash with the mighty Chelmsford. Havering had great goal potential upfront with Paula Johnson, Faye Downes & the returning veteran Gina Sammons but despite several short corners & some fine attacking play that goal eluded them. Chelmsford fought back though, and caught the Havering defence napping & broke the stalemate with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Havering came out all guns blazing in the second half, forcing Chelmsford back into their own 25 yard area. Helen Joslin & Megan Miller linking well at centre & right midfield forced the ball out to the right wing where a cross from Sammons set Johnson up to break the Havering duck. A good ball from defender Frankie Joyce to midfielder Dini Chuter, was driven into the Chelmsford D where Miller on the far post caught a deflection of the keeper & put the ball home.
Deborah Lardner, Katie Thorn & young keeper, Rachel Sarsons, were, asever, tireless in defence.

Ladies 5's (0) vs Brentwood Academy (1) on 17 Nov 07
This match between the Brentwood youth team & the Havering mixed age team took place in the late afternoon at Hannekins Farm under floodlights.
In this end to end game, Dini Chuter, Faye Downes, Lisa Wilson & Elaine Frewin created chances in attack, winning several penalty corners which Havering failed to convert.
Brentwood counter attacked but were mostly beaten off by Emily Mills, Charlotte Newman & Louise Burgess in defence. Rachel Sarsons had very little to do in goal as Deborah Lardner played her usual sterling game at sweeper aided & abetted by improving new girl Katie Thorn at left back. A moments lapse in concentration by the Havering defence towards the end of the game, saw Brentwood slot a home the only goal in this evenly matched game.

Ladies 5's (2) vs Brentwood Ladies 4's (0) on 10 Nov 07
An early home game saw the Havering side short for the second week running and with a squad of 15 players, Brentwood looked to be fielding a stronger side.
But, yet again, Havering showed that they were made of stern stuff! With a central core of veterans Deborah Lardner, Tracy Murphy, Helen Joslin & Lisa Wilson but with youthful flanks of Frankie Joyce , Louise Burgess, Dini Chuter, Vicky Paxton & Elaine Frewin, Havering put up a strong fight, applying pressure on the Brentwood defence from midfield through Joslin & Wilson. Havering had several short corner opportunities but failed to score from them & it took a delicate little flip over a grounded keeper by Wilson to put Havering 1 - 0 up 5 minutes from half time.
Having, worked hard in the first half, Havering began to tire in the second. An injured Joslin moved to sweeper and Lousie Burgess replaced her in midfield, and capably filled that position. Having again had
several short corner opportunities and failing to capitalise on them, Havering also had to absorb a lot of pressure from Brentwood in the last 10 minutes and some good saves by young keeper Rachael Sarson kept Brentwood at bay, but having lost concentration for a few moments Havering allowed Brentwood to equalise. Havering felt satisfied with this result as they had all worked hard to squeeze a point from this higher ranked Brentwood team.

Ladies 5's (2) vs Braintree Ladies 2's (0) on 20 Oct 07
With a couple of players pulling out late in the week Havering travelled to Braintree with a team of only 9 expecting a very hard time of it in this Division 3 fixture. In the first half of the game the play was concentrated in the mid two quarters of the pitch but with some good clearances by Deborah Lardner at sweeper and some sharp saves by keeper Rachel Sarsons. By the end of the first half the valiant Havering side were visibly tiring and felt a sense of achievement that they had not conceded any goals. Five minutes into the second half & the cavalry arrived in the form of Emily Mills & Charlotte Newman who had come straight from the 4th eleven game.
With the fresh legs of Mills & Newman in midfield, the attacking Havering game began to look up and Havering applied a lot of pressure, now managing to win some short corners. The goals came in the last quarter of the game, Havering were awarded a penalty corner, Faye Downes injecting to Tracy Murphy who slipped right to Maria Griffin who passed straight back to Murphy 2 yards in, Murphy shot, the keeper saved and Downes on the left post had the ball in the net off the keeper. The second goal was a replica of the first only it was Newman on the right post who scored her first club goal. Havering went home happy, Braintree did not!

Ladies 5's (0) vs Southend & Benfleet 3's (0) on 20 Oct 07
This was a tough fixture for Havering especially as over half the fifth team had already played a full game that day, but in true Havering style they put as much into this game as they had the previous one. Megan Miller in midfield showed her skill & determination, calling for the ball from Tracy Morland & Liz Meehan in defence, when she was in space to receive, beating a player & distributing the ball to Faye Downes, Dini Chuter & Vicky Paxton up front.
Louise Burgess at right back had some good runs into attack and Charlotte Newman not playing her usual full back position was able to apply pressure to the Southend defence from left half. Havering were close to scoring from a couple off penalty corners but finished the game feeling satisfied with the result.

Ladies 5's (0) vs Romford 2's (2) on 13 Oct 07
Havering, fielding 3 experienced players and a team of mostly novices battled well against the Romford 1st XI, a side of young adults. Havering had the upper hand in the first half with the Romford defence often failing to move the ball up the pitch. Helen Joslin, in only her second outing for Havering 5s after a 13 year layoff, had command of the midfield distributing the ball to Faye Downes & Nadina Chuter on the forward line & instigating some good right sided play with youngsters Megan Miller, Eva Dench & Maria Griffin. Although Havering showed great promise, they failed to capitalise on their attacks & the defence succumbed to a couple of easy goals for Romford’s Kelly Butcher.

Ladies 5's (3) vs Harlow Ladies 2's (0) on 29 Sept 07
Havering were back into winning ways this week with a convincing win against a strong Harlow team. Havering’s team, a mixture of youngsters and more experienced players, blended very well throughout.
Havering’s former 1st XI Captain, Helen Joslin, playing her first league match in 13 years, was the spur behind the victory, with two superbly struck short corner goals. Havering’s other goal came from Emily Mills. |
