SEASON 2008 / 9

SEASON 2007 / 8

Mens 4's (2) v East Suffolk Vets (2) on 08 - Mar - 08

Havering took the long trip up the A12 to take on the experienced vets of Ipswich.

Short on players, there was an SOS sent to the fifth team and Mark Oatham and Dinal Shah answered the call. With Graham and the evergreen Ethridge shoring things up at the back, Martin Turner and Indi Degun pulling the strings in midfield and Alex Lee and John Toh in attack, there was an optimistic feel as the battle commenced. 10 minutes later, optimism was on short supply. The cunning of the Ipswich Vets was dominating proceedings.

Havering drew first blood, when the pace of Toh, left the Suffolk defence standing. Toh danced around 3 players before cooly applying a reverse stick finish into the bottom corner. 0-1...

Half time followed, and Wilson set about to spur on the Havering team, but Havering conceded an equaliser within in two minutes of the restart. A needless short was given away, and the Ipswich forward didnt need a second invitation to hit the back board. 1-1...

Havering then improved and played at a higher tempo. Alex Lee started to cause problems for Suffolk, and Terry Turner started to see more of the ball. A penatly flick followed and Alex Lee stepped up confidently. The scored remained one a piece as Alex rattled the woodwork. Suffolk soon took the lead... 2-1 to the vets.

The goal gave Havering a new lease of life, and a period of constant pressure on the Suffolk goal ensued. It was no surprise when the equaliser came with 4 minutes remaining. The surprise being the goal scorer, young Terrance Turner finally breaking his goal scoring drought after 5 long years. When faced with an open goal, Turner proved himself 'truly deadly from two yards' . 2-2....

4 minutes remained but it was not long enough for the winner Havering deserved.
Maldon II's lie in wait next week and with some key players returning, Havering can be confident of building on this performance.

Mens 4's (4) v Fords 2's (2) on 13 - Oct - 07

Havering got off to a slow start as Ford only started with 10 men and the thought of an easy game crossed the minds of all Havering players. This was not the case however as Ford opened the scoring against a sleepy Havering defence within the first 10 minutes.

The next 10 mintues were hard for Havering as they struggled to make any real chances. The first sign of a breakthrough was when Tom Wilson whacked the ball against the post and this seemed to give Havering new hope. The first goal for the visitors came after an attacking short corner. The ball was cleared awkwardly and straight into the path of Tony Joyce where he sturck the ball down the line into the D to Alex Lee. A first time shot then followed and the ball went into the bottom corner.

Almost straight afterwards, Havering had another short corner. Indi Degan slipped the ball left to Alex Lee and a sweep to the far post allowed Danny Downes the deflection to give Havering a second goal. After the half time break, Havering were slow to start again and gave away an easy goal. Once again, the next 10-15 minutes were slow and Havering could not break through the Ford defence. A Havering strike against the post, then a short corner soon after saw the ball cleared to Joyce who found Lee who flicked past the oncoming goalkeeper. Ford really upped the tempo but some spectacular goal keeping by Dean, kept the home side at bay. The game was wrapped up with 10 minutes to go when Bob Joyce converted a rebound from the goalkeeper following an initial strike by Lee.

An inexperienced Men’s 4th Team crashed to a spectacular 10-0 defeat away against Colchester 4th XI
